The Buddhist tie between Thailand and Sri Lanka harks back to the 12th Century. A Nakhon Sri Thammarat provincial ruler asked envoys to visit Sri Lanka to bring monks to the province in order to disseminate Buddhism. Later, the mission headed for the Sukhothai Kingdom during the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, leading to an expansion of Buddhism in Thailand.

The number of travelers from Saudi Arabia was significantly high prior to the 1989 blue diamond affair. That is, 77,782 and 68,071 visitors were reported in 1987 and 1988 respectively. After the 1989 scandal, the figure plummeted to as low as 7,000 between 2001 and 2004, and around 10,000 for the period from 2005to 2006.however, the number improved to 16,896 in 2008.

The Minister of Endowment and Islamic Affairs of Qatar visited to Thailand to join the opening ceremony of the university buildings & dormitories on 28 January 2007, H.E Dr. Ghaith Mubarak Ali Imran Al Kuwart, the vice minister of Endowment and Islam Affairs visited to Thailand on 29-30 January 2012 0n behalf of the King of Qatar to attend stone foundation laying ceremony at hospital building of Yala Islamic University which has also been financially supported by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani of the ruling Emir of Qatar.

 
Pakistan

Both Thailand and Pakistan have had close cordial relations especially in the people-to-people level. Thai people have settled Thai communities in Pakistan for a long time. Apart from those who married Pakistan and work in Pakistan, there are about 200 Thai students who study Islamic studies and Arabic language in Pakistan. Thailand -Pakistan Friendship Association and Thailand-Pakistan Chamber of commerce were established to strengthen the growing ties of both countries. Statistically, Pakistani with good income tent to travel abroad and Thailand is one of their top destinations. Apart from Thailand’s beautiful culture and natural attractions, it also has various products foe them to purchase. On the country, Thai people still haven’t regarded Pakistan as their main tourist destination that much. However Pakistan has many cultural archeological sites related to Buddhism in the north of country such as Taxila and Khyber in Pakhtunkhwa. As a result, Pakistan needs some help from Thailand to develop those significant religious sites. They aim to make those places become the country’s tourist attraction. Consequently, Pakistan has planned to promote Buddhist tourism among Buddhist countries. Thailand, as one of the Buddhist country, also supports this project in terms of academic cooperation and sharing experience by Thai archeological experts which the sign of the closer relation and dynamic co-operation and Islamic countries in the conservation of ancient Buddhist remains.

 
Nepal

Religious and cultural collaborations were the two most important dimensions of the relations between Thailand and Nepal (even more important than economy or political spheres). The countries have emphasized on the collaboration in the fields of religions, history and culture.Nepal is renowned for its historic religious sites such as; Lumbini or Janakpu (Mithila in the story of Mahajanaka). Furthermore, Thailand and Nepal have agreed to work on a Plan of Action (cultural) to organize activities which will promote cultural collaboration and better understanding of the two countries. This will also lead to Buddhist and eco-friendly tourism which can be done by advertising with the aim to promote tourism and giving more tourism options for both countries. For instance, the tour package could be done as a combined destination.

 
Maldives

Thailand and Maldives established the diplomatic relations on June 2, 1979. The relations between the two countries have been going smoothly for over 30 years.

In the past, there were Siamese Muslims living in 4 southernmost provinces of Siam which weregiven to the British Empire in exchange with the sovereignty of Siam being recognized by the the Siamese Malaysians have still carried on their local Thai cultures and rituals such as Songkran and Loy Krathong festivals, the Buddhist Lent, the Robe Offering ceremony as well as Songkran and Loy Krathong festivals, the Buddhist Lent, the Robe Offering ceremony as well asthe use of Thai language as their mean of communication

 
Kyrgyzstan

Although there have been rather few socio-cultural collaboration between Thailand and Kyrgyzstan and little is known between their peoples, both countries have been attempting to develop and strengthen their collaboration in various aspects such as academic collaboration for Thailand used to sponsor Kyrgyz delegates financially to have a short study visit in Thailand
In February 2011, Kyrgyzstan requested Thailand to display a literature written by a Kyrgyz man, Mr. Chingiz Aitmatov, and translated into Thai by Mr. Thanit Thammasukhati the International Book Fair.

 
Kuwait

Academically, Kuwait has granted scholarship to Thai students to study in high school and bachelor’s degree levels each year in the fields of religion, Islamic laws and Arabic language. Currently, there are approximately 40 Thai students in Kuwait.

 
Cambodia

Thailand and Cambodia share a good deal of common history, cultures, religions and way of living. This binds the peoples together especially those living along the borderline. However, there have been ups and downs in the relations between the two countries especially in the recent years which is mainly caused by their internal political situations aiming to indulge patriotism among the people. The recent border dispute has also fueled the deteriorating diplomatic relations. Cambodia terminated diplomatic relations with Thailand twice. The first was during the government of of Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat on November 2, 1958. Later, their diplomatic relation was reestablished in February 1959 which was to be terminated once again by the Cambodian on October 23, 1965 and the relation was not to be reestablished until 1966 during the Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn’s government. Both of the two cases were caused by the disputed Temple of Preah Vihear. Moreover, Thailand decided to downgrade the diplomatic ties with Cambodia after the Royal Thai Embassy was burned by some Cambodians on January 30, 2003 after the Cambodia press reported that a Thai actress, Kob Suvanan Khongying had insulted Cambodians (during Taksin Shinawatra’s government). Consequently, Mr. Prasat Prasatvinitchai, Thai Ambassador at the time was sent back to Thailand from 5 November 2009 – 24 August 2010 . Cambodian government had appointed Mr. Shinawatra as the advisor of their government which they later announced invalid on November 4, 2010. During the same period of time, Cambodia also demanded the Cambodian Ambassador to Thailand to return to Cambodia as a result of the worsening relations.

 
Brunei Darussalam

Thailand and Brunei Darussalam have been in close cordial relations for there have always been visit exchanges between senior officials of the two countries. Brunei Darussalam was a good ally of Thailand in both ASEAN and multilateral such as; Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and APEC United Nations.

 
Bhutan

Thailand and Bhutan have been in exceptionally close relations. Two of the key reasons are both countries share a common political system being the constitutional monarchy and both have Buddhism as their national religion. The two countries have somewhat similar cultures and neither has ever been colonised by the west. Bhutanese communities are based on simple agriculture. its people have led a life of simplicity in accordance with the Mahayana Buddhism’s way of living. Furthermore, they are still maintaining their well-kept traditions and customs. It was King Jigme Singye Wangchuck , father of the reigning monarch, whose wise policy has encouraged people to conserve their traditions and customs. There are numerous campaigns such as the encouragement for people to wear traditional costumes in their daily life, the conservation of Bhutanese dialects and architecture.

People of Kazakhstan at large have admired Thai boxing so much, that they established Thai boxing Association of Kazakhstan with their Prime Minister as the president of association. Kazakhstan was the hosted of the 2nd congress of Leaders of world and Traditional Religions on 12-19 September 2006. Pro.Dr. Pradhammakosajarn the high-ranked Thai Buddhism leader represented Thailand in the first conference. In 2003, Kazakhstan invited the supreme patriarch of Thai Buddhism to join this conference as well. Unfortunately, his health wasn’t very good so he couldn’t accept such invitation. Moreover, Bangkok established the fraternal relations with Astana by Mr. Samak Suntornravech, Bangkok governor at the time, He signed an fraternal cities agreement during his visited in Kazakhstan in June 2004. Besides, Kazakhstan also expressed its wishes to establish such fraternal relations between Pattaya and Shymkent.
